This is just the very best idea ~ a project I’ll be undertaking this next winter … I’ve all my mom’s and grandma’s recipes … and Grandma owned/ran a diner during the 1920’s.
From Martha ~ “Scan and size recipes and photos with photo-editing software, then print onto card stock. Cut to size, and place in tins. Wrap tins with a wide band of paper printed with a colorful pattern (scanned vintage kitchen linens work well) and a portrait of the cook.”  via

"It had flaws, but what does that matter when it comes to matters of the heart? We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That’s as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect."

Petit: my mother told me this, long long ago ~ that the difference between “liking” and “loving” someone, anything actually, is in saying “I like you because …” and “I love you although …”

a-ladys-findings: Caramel coconut cake
Petit: My birthday is next week. Every year, whether or not I was at home, my mother would see to it that I got her German chocolate cake on that day. My absolutely ridiculously unbelievable favorite. Loooooong after I was on my own, with my own family, my own home.
No matter what. I mean, I could have baked it myself ~ I’d copied the recipe before I left home, for Heaven’s sake.
And, though she’s been gone from me now 11 years, just seeing this pic tonight as I scrolled through my dash brought such a sharp pang to my heart.
I miss you, Mom. I love you ♥
